Various parts of a Faucet

Date Added: April 09, 2010 05:18:17 AM

Faucets can be found in all models of, whether they're for your kitchen, bathroom of garage. There are the conventional chrome faucets with compression type valves and there are those with ball valves. They come in every finishes like stainless steel and colored enamel finishes.

To get to understand about your faucet, I'll discuss below the various aspects of a faucet you can encounter when you try to dissect or repair your faucet.

The basic faucet parts are:

a) The tail piece:

b) The length between the tail pieces

c) The mounting nut that holds the faucet on the sink

d) The supply tube for delivering water to the faucet

e) The shutoff valve to regulate the supply of water when repairs are required

f) The aerator that manages mixing water appearing out of the spout with air to prevent splashes

g) The control valve (there are many control valves that will be discussed below)

There are a few faucets with compression valves that separate the hot as well as the cold. A common difference between compression valves and all sorts of other is that it provides a rubber washer at its base compressing against a valve, shutting off the water.

Others faucets have ball-type valves and so are usually found on single handle faucets. The ball valve behaves similarly being a car stick shift using the left and right controlling the temperature as well as the front and back controlling the flow of the water.

Another kind of faucet are those that have cartridge type valves. They are available both in single and double handle styles. Double handle cartridge type faucets work very in the same way to compression valves except with the less extra pressure applied when closing the valve. For single handle cartridge faucets, this also resembles the ball-type valves apart from the flow is controlled by raising or lowering the handle.

These are generally basically the several parts of a faucet. Other more complicated faucets could have various parts however for more often than not, you'll encounter faucets of similar structure using the ones I've mentioned previously.
