A pager is a telecommunication device for short messages. The first pager was introduced by the physicians in New York City in 1950. It had a range of approximately 25 miles. There are different types of pagers that are used for different purposes. One type of a pager is a numeric pager which can only receive a message containing digits, like a telephone number, who the user is then expected to call. Another one, an alphanumeric pager can be considered as a modified form of a numeric pager. An alphanumeric pager can also receive email as well as SMS messages apart from the numeric messages. An alphanumeric pager has the ability to display text as well. |
